May our spouses and our offspring be a joy to our eyes

Can we imagine about marrying someone who is addicted to drink, who doesn’t perform namaz, who flirt with opposite gender people, who doesn’t care about Islam, can we?

Can we marry someone just because they are good looking or educated or healthy or wealthy, thinking that they may change to a good Muslim after marriage?

If that is true, they should start getting better now itself. But that may not be what actually happens.

Quran 13:11 says – “Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves. ”

So what criteria should we follow while choosing a life partner?

Islam is the only religion in the face of the earth that teaches us how to live every second of our life. See what the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) taught us.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “A woman is married for four things, i.e., her wealth, her family status, her beauty and her religion. So you should marry the religious woman (otherwise) you will be a losers. [Sahih Bukhari]

“Do not marry women for their good looks, as their beauty might destroy them; and do not marry them for their wealth as their riches might lead them to be overbearing. Marry them for their religion; and a black and unattractive maid who is religious, is better [than them both].”[Ibn Maajah]

Quran states : “Women of purity are for men of purity, and men of purity are for women of purity [Quran 24:26]

Allah is the best Planner, so put your trust in Allah, because Allah says :

“Put your trust in Allah, for Allah loves those who put their trust in Him” [Quran 3 :159].

So one who seeks a good spouse must start praying to Allah to get a partner who is pious, devout, pure and whose aim is to please Allah in every aspect of life. Allah, the one who helps His slave, to achieve his goals will surely open the door for him. Because Allah is Al Fattah – The opener. So as you are embarking on a new venture, your marriage, which is the most important in your life, ask Allah to open the doors for you, so that, you do not encounter unanticipated difficulties.

And pray to The Almighty,

“Our Lord, may our spouses and our offspring be a joy to our eyes and make us leaders of the righteous” [Quran 25:74].

May Allah help us, in our sincere efforts in following, His commandments and the way of His beloved servant, Muhammad (peace be upon him).
